Unthank:Smith are heading to Jimmy’s on 29 March 2023.

Tickets to see the two North-Eastern Mercury Prize-nominated artists perform together will be on sale from Friday 2 December

Despite being from entirely different musical worlds, the duo found common ground with their exploratory merging of voices and acoustic sounds. After first meeting backstage at an Africa Express show at Middlesbrough Town Hall, Paul approached Rachel to see if she would like to sing together — given his interest in folk music and their regional connections.

As one of two lead singers of The Unthanks, Rachel Unthank has dedicated much of her career to celebrating folk songs by writers little known beyond the North East. Rachel’s knowledge of traditional song allowed the pair to quickly add material to the original songs Paul was writing.

Together Unthank:Smith have performed for audiences across their home region and beyond, including as part of  Lauren Laverne’s Great Northern Soundtrack at the 2018 Exhibition of the North.

Now set to bring their unique blend of sounds to audiences in Liverpool, find full details below.
