The Libertines have today revealed the name of their new hotel/studio in Margate. It shall henceforth be known as The Albion Rooms. An opening date and launch party will be announced in due course.
To coincide with this news The Libertines launch a new web platform at thelibertines.com which will include, exclusive content charting progress of The Albion Rooms, recording sessions and glimpses of day to day life – think “Down and Out in Paris And London” via a pie and mash shop on Margate prom. The new website will also offer a new and classic Libertines merchandise range, and opportunities for fans to become patrons of their new arthouse.
The Libertines were handed the keys to The Albion Rooms in September 2017. Planning permission was granted and the studio build is now nearly completed. ‘The Albion Rooms’ occupies a five storey ten room Victorian building overlooking the sea and the famous band stand.
Margate is a classic seaside resort, particularly popular with Londoners, for those looking for sandy beaches and a good knees up. But, Margate also has rich artistic roots and a free spirit that thrives today, embodied by its old town and the Turner Contemporary gallery. This mix of traditional English charm and modern cool gives it plenty of libertine appeal.
Inspired by the celluloid co-habitation antics of the Beatles and the Monkees, Carl, Gary, John and Peter had been looking for a creative home: a living art space, a Warholian factory, with guest rooms, a bar and studio.
The band members have already made themselves at home, and have commenced writing their fourth studio album, and will be inviting both fans and the world’s press to play a part in the creative process.
Once complete the album will be played back to the media and launched with a party and show at ‘The Albion Rooms.’ The new album is scheduled to be released in summer 2018.
The studio will be finished next month and plans for the bar, where you may be lucky (or unlucky) enough to have one of the band pull you a pint, are underway. Individually designed guest rooms, each with a distinctly Libertines’ style, will open fully after the recording of the new album.
The Libertines’ comeback album, ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth (2015),’ achieved Top Ten
album status across the world, including number 3 in the UK. They have played live to nearly a million people in 23 countries over the last three years and commence 2018 with their first shows in Australia and New Zealand and a headline show at the Victorious Festival in August.
