For Matinée, a clutch of radio support was secured in 2014. High profile supporters included XFM (played single on Danielle Perry’s show, XFM Scotland and Carl Barat is already a fan of the band, saying about them“A accomplished Italian answer to the indie music of the Naughties, focussing on all the best bits, Ferdinand, Cribs, Coral et al… Boss.”
They have also been described by Chris Geddes from Belle and Sebastian as “Anthemic indie rock with electronic flourishes. Hints of Franz Ferdinand and the Britpop era abound”.The band also featured in Loaded Magazine and have been added to the Rockaway Beach line up.
Matinée’s 2014 single Missing Pieces of a Jigsaw made the Italian national Top 20 and was Track of the Day on Gig Slutz. The video was also selected for UK wide video promotion via the in store video Jukebox’s at Topman.
A whirlwind twelve months for the band has seen their social media pages explode and followers and fans await the photogenic foursome to be hailed as the new indie kings.
The band are named after Scotland’s very own Franz Ferdinand’s hit song ‘Matinee’ and struck ap a friendship with the band after supporting them in Italy. Our Mediterranean friends well and truly embraced the band the support gigs lead to live offers from some major venues around Italy not to mention some huge radio support. UK support has come from NME, Q and Jim Gellatly of XFM Scotland / Amazing radio is an official fan. Matinee were nominated for Best International Act on Amazing Radio Awards show and also played live at the uber cool Station Sessions at Kings Cross London.
Matineé have played live at many key London venues including Death Disco (Creation Records; Alan McGee’s night),Jubilee (Carl Barats night) and the 100 Club. Last year they played at the Un Altro Festival in Milan opening for The Lumineers and Daughter, other support slots include Mystery Jets, The Futureheads , and
British Sea Power.
