WATCHETLIVE C.I.C, the organisers of WATCHETLIVE FESTIVAL have announced the final headliner for their 10th Birthday Party across Bank Holiday 2016, and its a blinder!
Former Glastonbury Festival headliners, Levellers will close the festival in their own imitable style. Drawing from their extensive back catalogue of over twenty chart hits, including What A Beautiful Day, One Way, Carry Me and Battle of The Beanfield, the ultimate festival band will provide Watchets 10th Birthday celebrations with an incredible final performance.
Formed in Brighton in 1988, Levellers blend Folk, Rock, Punk & Pop music combined with incendiary and heartfelt lyrics, with an explosive high-energy live show that has been witnessed by millions of people around the world. Still featuring their original line up, and having never split up, after 28 years in the business they remain one of the UKs most enduring and popular live bands.
It is no secret that the Watchet Festival organisers are themselves huge Levellers fans, and this landmark booking marks a major milestone in the journey that they have been on since Watchet Festival started running separately from its Carnival roots a decade ago.
Headlining Watchet on Saturday are BRIT and Ivor-Novello award winning pop-rock band The Feeling. With their back catalogue of instantly recognisable hits including Sewn, Fill My Little World, Never Be Lonely and I Thought It Was Over (all of which graced the UK Top 10 singles chart), Saturday night at Watchet is once again set to be filled with thousands of voices singing along!
Also joining Saturdays bill are Joy Division and New Order Bassist Peter Hook, along with his band The Light. Performing classic songs from throughout Hookys illustrious career, as well as some original material, this is a performance that is likely to go down in Watchet Festival history.
Being Watchet Festivals 10th birthday party, the organisers have decided to invite back bands whove provided some of the most memorable moments over the festivals first decade. Thus, Friday will see a welcome return from both the utterly brilliant Geno Washington and the 70s Soul stars, The Real Thing. Saturday hosts a repeat visit from former Specials frontman Neville Staple Band after their unforgettable performance in 2013, and Sunday will host a homecoming from two much-loved Watchet favourites; the incomparable Dreadzone and Cornish folk troubadours 3 Daft Monkeys. Many more acts across all three days are yet to be announced.
With last years event selling out in record time (the festivals fifth successive sell-out year), and legendary performers such as Sir Bob Geldof, The Selecter, Seth Lakeman and Big Country all taking to the stage, last years wellington boots are big ones to fill. However, with a stellar line up already announced and a number of major artists still to announce, 2016 is undoubtedly set to be the biggest and best Watchet Festival to date.
Watchet LIVE Festival is a not-for-profit family-friendly festival with amazing views of the stunning West Somerset coastline and beyond. Three live stages host more than 60 live acts, bringing a wide range of high-calibre musical acts not normally found performing in West Somerset, at a very affordable price.
Following the success of last years sold out event (the festivals fifth in a row), Watchet LIVE Festival has again made financial donations to local groups including The Childrens Hospice South West, Elliots Touch, and the Stand Against Speed 4 Bethany young drivers awareness campaign.
Alongside a wide variety of high quality food stalls, the extensive in-house Cider and Real Ale Bar prices are always kept as low as possible, providing one of the best-value refreshments offerings to be found at any event in the UK.
