Making a welcome first visit to Liverpool this summer, US singer-songwriter Jolie Holland plays at the Leaf Café in mid July.
Drawing from folk, blues, roots and country and counting Tom Waits as an ardent fan, Jolie’s 2014 LP ‘Wine Dark Sea’ has been the most celebrated of her career so far.
Described by Uncut as ‘magnificent’ and as ‘some of the most robust and raw material Holland’s ever written’ by American Songwriter, the disc has become the most high profile release yet by the Texas born singer.
A founding member of acclaimed Americana outfit The Be Good Tanyas, Jolie’s 2003 debut solo album Catalpa won sizeable praise and saw her sign to ANTI-, the sister label of iconic US indie Epitaph.
Presented live as a duo, the singer says the upcoming shows ‘…will present the songs as they were written, straight from the heart. Between us, we’re two electric guitars, two voices, harmonium, violin and piano’.
