Treetop Flyers’ new single Dance Through The Night was recorded at Soup Studios, London, with Simon Trought (who has previously worked with The Wave Pictures) and Giles Barrat. It was mixed by Jonathan Wilson, who most recently worked on the latest Father John Misty album ‘I Love You, Honeybear’, as well as his own records ‘Gentle Spirit’ and ‘Fanfare’. ‘Dance’ will be available to download from Friday 16th October.
Whereas The Mountain Moves showed off their more classic West Coast sound, Dance Through The Night signals a progression towards more psychedelic influences, illustrated further by the trippy visuals of the accompanying video, created by friend of the band, Paul Buckle of Night Dials.
“It’s about setting a scene and encouraging a strong visual so that you’re right there with us”, explains singer Reid Morrison – “It’s fun writing like that. It’s fun to know that no matter how showing you are, it’s always going to be open to the peoples imagination.”
As with songs on The Mountain Moves, Dance Through The Night was a collaborative process within the band – “Like a lot bands, there was a discussion about the lyrics and we were doing a bit of fence perching”, says Reid. “Twenty minutes before recording the vocal, myself and Sam re-wrote the second verse and the song seemed to find its own identity. It’s based on recalling events that have happened on nights out – some funny, some weird and I suppose to a degree, things I’ve wanted to happen but I never quite managed to pull off (I’ll say no more).”
Led by Reid Morrison’s distinctively soulful vocals, surrounded by Sam Beer and Laurie Sherman’s swirling electric guitars, Tomer Danan on drums, new recruit Ned Crowther on bass, and a Doors-style organ interlude provided by Sam, there are enough twists and turns to keep you hooked for the full six and a half minutes.
“On its simplest level, there’s a distinct lack of guitar songs that you can dance to so I’m hoping this can fill that gap”, says Reid. “We’ve done a bunch of festivals this summer and it seems to be doing the trick!”
Fans will get the opportunity to preview more new songs as the band are currently on the road, playing a handful of intimate shows throughout the UK, with a date at London’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen tonight.
