The SSE Scottish Music Awards today add to their biggest line-up yet, as Mark Knopfler, Amy Macdonald, Kyle Falconer and The Snuts are all set to perform at the ceremony at Glasgow’s SEC, joining the previously announced Snow Patrol and Tom Grennan.
2018’s line-up includes; Snow Patrol (award sponsored by SSE), Mark Knopfler (award sponsored by Raymond Weil), Tom Grennan (award sponsored by Theo Fennell) , Kyle Falconer (award sponsored by Hard Rock Cafe), The Snuts (award sponsored by Rekorderlig Cider) and more to be announced.
With some of the most legendary figures in music receiving prestigious awards over the years including Paolo Nutini, Emeli Sandé, Twin Atlantic, Travis and Deacon Blue, 2018’s star-studded ceremony will not only reflect on an incredible year for Scotland, but also on the music and artists who have been the soundtrack of a nation for the past twenty years.
One of the most significant singer-songwriters Scotland has ever produced, Mark Knopfler joins this year’s SSE Scottish Music Awards line-up, having sold over 200 million records and influenced generations of songwriters and guitarists. Co-founder, lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the legendary Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler has worked with Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Tina Turner and Van Morrison, to name a few. He is no stranger to award ceremonies, having won four Grammy Awards, three BRIT Awards plus an Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement Award, and is now nominated for a Living Legend Award, sponsored by Raymond Weil.
Singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald is one of Scotland’s favourite success stories, and for good reason. She won the Best Newcomer award at the SMAs in 2007, after storming onto the scene with singles ‘Poison Prince’, ‘Mr Rock n Roll’ and the title track from her UK Number 1 debut album This Is the Life. Eleven years, three more studio albums and 13 million record sales later, Amy has achieved stardom all over the world and releases the fittingly-titled Woman Of The World – The Best of 2007 to 2018 in November. Amy’s performance at the SSE Scottish Music Awards, 11 years since she first appeared at the event, will truly be a moment to remember.
Amy MacDonald said, “I’m delighted to be invited back to the SSE Scottish Music Awards, especially as it’s their 20th anniversary year and also eleven years since they were kind enough to give me the Best Newcomer award when I was just starting out on my first album. Getting that award was a real landmark for me and to have that kind of support at home in Scotland meant a lot and still does. The event is also a big fundraiser for Nordoff Robbins in Scotland which is a fantastic charity and one I’m always happy to support. They use music to make such a difference to the lives of people who find it very difficult to communicate in other ways and that’s something that I can really relate to as a musician. It’s always a very special night full of great music and hopefully, with the bigger venue, it will raise even more money to help people this year.”
Kyle Falconer makes a welcomed return to the awards this year, as 2018 saw Kyle release his debut solo album No Thank You and embark on his own tour, ensuring this year will be one to remember for the Dundee singer-songwriter. During his decade in the iconic Scottish band The View, Falconer has won two SSE Scottish Music Awards and this year, is nominated for Best Album, sponsored by Hard Rock Cafe.

The SSE Scottish Music Awards are delighted to continue to support and recognise the best up and coming talent in Scotland, The Snuts will perform at the awards ceremony, following an incredible year for the West-Lothian band. Selling out their current Scottish tour in just one day, the band have quickly built up a reputation for their electric live shows, as showcased at festivals across the UK this summer including TRNSMT, Belladrum and Reading and Leeds. Nominated for Best Breakthrough Artist, sponsored by Rekorderlig Cider, The Snuts’ performance at the SSE Scottish Music Awards will be one to remember.

A NEW HOME FOR SCOTTISH MUSIC
Following a historic stint at Glasgow’s legendary Old Fruitmarket, the SSE Scottish Music Awards will this year take place at the iconic SEC on Saturday 1st December. With organisers pulling some of the biggest acts from across the UK to Glasgow to celebrate a very special birthday for the biggest night in the Scottish music industry,the brand-new venue will offer fans an incredible experience with an even bigger stage in place. The SSE Scottish Music Awards have been the main fundraising event for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins Scotland since 1996. Funds raised on the night are a vital part of the charity’s ability to provide music therapists and sessions to those who need it most.
