One of the capital’s finest and fastest-rising purveyors of soulful downtempo electronica, Cornwall-raised and London-based musician and producer Ted Jasper is today sharing new single ‘Back To The Start’ and announcing his first headline show at Rye Wax on November 20th. The new single is the latest cut to be taken from Ted’s forthcoming ‘Back For More’ EP which is due for release November 8th. It follows on from his 2018 ‘One Day’ EP – the inaugural release on Jamz Supernova’s Future Bounce imprint, supported by 6 Music, Radio 1 and 1Xtra – as well as his recent Complex-premiered single ‘Don’t Want It’, later remixed by Tour-Maubourg and Adhelm. You can stream ‘Back To The Start’ here: http://hyperurl.co/csxc77.

Tickets for the EP release show at Rye Wax go on sale 10am Friday 11th October, the same day he’ll support Hayden James at EartH.

Talking about the track, Ted says: “Sometimes when I’m sample digging I’ll listen to the first few seconds of a track and simultaneously hear the new song I want to create out of it – this was definitely one of those moments. If I’m connecting to a song idea a few lyrical themes or melodies will come straight away, then I’ll live with the beat for a bit. I might drive with it playing or go for a walk with some headphones through a park in London or back at home in Cornwall.” He continues: “When I was going over ‘Back To The Start’ I was thinking about the times in a relationship when you pine after the ‘honeymoon’ stage where everything seems simple and you never argue over anything. It’s easy to slip past potential conflicts in those early stages, you’re both learning about each other and neither of you want to reveal yourself fully and risk creating a divide. Once I have a concept like that for a song the words are easy to find.”

Drawing influence from a wide array of names – from Kanye West, to St Germain and The Neptunes – Ted’s work is an intoxicating hybrid of jazz and soul sensibilities paired with refreshing, occasionally club-oriented production that takes its cues from downtempo house, hip-hop, lo-fi and trip-hop. As those electronic leanings hint at, Ted made his way into the music world through explorations into house music during a stint living in Bristol. In fact, having spent several years hiding behind the mixing desk in the years prior, the material on this new four-track EP was the first time he even stepped in front of a microphone.

Through his work as a DJ, producer and, now, fully-fledged recording artist bringing his vocals to the fore, Jasper has attracted the admiration of established names such as Chicago Fingers Inc.’s Robert Owens and Berlin-based Daniel Haaksman (whom Jasper has collaborated with), as well as consistent radio airplay and praise courtesy of the likes of Giles Peterson (6Music), Jamz Supernova (1Xtra), Laurent Garnier (Boiler Room), Phil Taggart (Radio 1) and John Kennedy (Radio X), plus further support from Worldwide FM, Radio Nova and BBC Introducing (who added him to their nationwide ‘Hot List’).
