Sound City is now just weeks away, taking place across the first bank holiday weekend in May right across Liverpool.
A heady, inspiring and downright celebration of music in all its myriad guises, the UK’s leading independent festival for emerging talent is once more getting set to showcase some of the world’s best talent, right through the next brace of new stars. And with the Sound City+ conference running in conjunction with the main festival, the city will host a defining odyssey of discovery across a range of venues and locations in the Baltic Triangle.
Bringing the whole spectacular weekend to a climax, there’s only one place to be on Sunday night, as the Noisey x Levi’s Music Project afterparty takes over Constellations. The project hosts the ultimate Sound City Afterparty on Sunday evening, with headliner slowthai. The mesmerising lyricist continues to challenge the establishment and established norms, with his live shows a fusion of sweat, skin and scorching words, in a mix of grime, punk and rap. He will be joined by Ms Banks, Aystar and Noisey DJs.
During the festival, having been mentored across the programme by Sound City’s Sunday headliner, Loyle Carner, the 2019 Levi’s® Music Project students will perform across the weekend and ahead of Loyle’s set at 8pm on the Sunday Mainstage. Loyle has mentored the twelve students during a six-month long music programme which comes into fruition at Sound City. The Levi’s Music Project weekend takeover launches on Friday 3rd, playing host to educational workshops with industry professionals, as part of the British Music Experience.
There’s also a distinctly local flavour at Sound City as some of its most important artists perform across the festival weekend. Liverpool heroes The Night Café are now revealed for Saturday’s action. The vibrant four piece from play infectious indie pop, and grew up influenced by The Beatles and The Coral. Fellow locals Clean Cut Kid are also revealed, performing on Sunday.
There’s a mouth-watering Bella Union showcase featuring Ren Harvieu, Liela Moss, Pom Poko, Penelope Idles at Onair at the Cains Brewery Village throughout Saturday, and Tim Burgess is a very special guest during Tim Peaks diner at Constellations on Sunday.
Well over 100 new artists have just been revealed too, performing across the entire weekend.
