Sound City announces 150 more artists from around the world, day splits, label parties, arts showcases, Greg Wilson official closing party and much more happening across the Baltic Triangle

The UK’s leading independent festival for new music, Sound City, is counting down the days toward its return to Liverpool’s city centre, as the festival gets set to launch the UK’s festival season across the Baltic Triangle, one of the coolest locations in Britain.

For its 11th momentous year, Sound City will embrace the spirit of the underground and seek out the next generation of talent, showcasing over 250 of the very best bands, artists and performers from across the world.

The festival is very proud to announce the brilliantly eccentric King Khan & The Shrines will be joining in, with support from surreal local pop-trio Stealing Sheep. Next up there’s Jordan Allen’s lyrical genius and the self-taught Tom Tripp’s pop, RnB and funk, through to moody pop from Perth’s Teischa, 77:78 hailing from the musical kaleidoscope that is The Bees, Vertigo Record’s Fang Club, feted folk singer Nathan Ball and Artificial Pleasure’s funky voyage through disco, house and ’80s pop. Over 150 more new bands from across Liverpool, the country and the world have been added, joining the already announced DMA’S, The Slow Readers Club, Picture This, Idles, Wye Oak and Black Honey on Saturday, and on Sunday Peace, Sunset Sons, Yellow Days, Baxter Dury, Jaws and Dermot Kennedy.

The day splits across the weekend have now been revealed too, so everyone can start planning their Sound City adventures in more detail.

As always with Sound City, there’s a huge emphasis on bringing some of the world’s most exciting artists to Liverpool to create a truly world-wide showcase of the latest music. Some of the bands and performers touching down include Trupa Trupa (Poland), Mart Avi (Estonia), Venus Tropicaux (Netherlands), Holy Bouncer (Spain), :Papercutz (Portugal), Olympia (Australia), The Paparazzi City (Japan), Zhaoze (China), Billy Carter (South Korea) and Far From Alaska (Brazil)

Sound City will also be hosting showcase parties with Heavenly Records, ATC Live, DIY, Modern Sky Records, Kycker Music, Zandari Festa, SESAC, End of The Trail, WRONG festival, Threshold, Lab Records, Punch Records, The Local, DITTO, Sentric Music and more.

Over to the festival’s wider arts programming, The Unusual Art Sourcing Company will have their award-winning life drawing alongside, poetry, acoustic performances, spoken word, busking and surprise guests. Flat Pack Music will bring Mozart’s comic masterpiece to Sound City in Cosi Fan Tutte, and Pirate Bay has joined Rotterdam’s infamous WORM’s Avantgardistic State, a multidisciplinary programme based round the international underground. The legendary Tim Peaks Diner also returns, and Gigs and Graphics20 x 20’ engages artists and musicians together, pairing 20 artists/designers/illustrators with 20 music acts.

Liverpool legend Greg Wilson has just been revealed as host for Sound City’s closing party, which will take place from midnight at Hangar 34. The Liverpool icon will bring guests Peza & Derek Kaye with him as part of his revered Credit To The Edit show, bringing the festival to a triumphant climax. There’s further late-night action across the whole weekend from Tim Peaks Diner, Getintothis and local house and techno promoters Abandon Silence heading up against MODULAR, at District running late Saturday night.

Finally, Edge Hill University – Sound City’s Innovation Partner – present The Label Recordings Venue Takeover and Stealing Sheep’s Suffragette Tribute. Other University showcases include BIMM and Leeds College of Music during the weekend.

The entire Baltic Triangle area will become a bustling hub during the festival taking over 20 locations, with an abundance of artisanal food and drink to savour, many hideaways to soak up the magic of Sound City and other activities including Ghetto Golf, Peaky Blinders bar, fine ales available at Tap & Still, Craft Minded and Tank room and the Baltic Market to visit.
