Secular Ghost is a solo musical project by South-Wales native vocalist and producer Ryan James.
Prior to SG, James’ musical output has received critical acclaim. He recently collaborated with platinum-selling Norwegian electronic veterans Röyksopp. Their track Sordid Affair, featuring James’ hypnotic lead vocals was the first single taken from their fifth studio album The Inevitable End, which debuted at #1 in the iTunes electronic chart.
James is also one half of electro-shoegaze duo Man Without Country, and having toured extensively throughout Europe and North America in support of their studio albums Foe and Maximum Entropy, he felt it was time to indulge in something new and more introspective.
Secular Ghost could be described as an ode to James’ distinct lyrical style, which has the ability to suddenly derail from fearlessly confrontational, to anxious and defeated. Tracks Fore and Aft
James’ chronicles are often heavily processed and enveloped in effects, which complements his unique and skillfully sculpted musical sound. SG embraces traditional hip-hop production techniques such as sampling, slicing, pitching and looping, and combines them with sophisticated beats and euphoric synthesizers.
His debut single The Bystander Effect was written, recorded, produced and mixed entirely by himself and is available now via Bandcamp, accompanied by b-side instrumental track Wormhole #1.
