Seasick Steve returns to the UK next month for his first full UK headline tour since 2015. Starting in Cambridge on Friday 9th November and finishing in Glasgow on the 21st, Steve’s last UK headline show was at The SSE Arena, Wembley in 2016.
Having just completed a fantastic European tour before coming to the UK (“These are the BEST shows we’ve ever done and we’re on fire as a band, really, we feel like the best live band in the world right now”) Steve will release fan favourite The Last Rodeo as a single on November 16th. Steve explains why the track is important: “That song –The Last Rodeo – it’s very specific, it came to me. I was in a parking lot in Norway and a car hit me, not hard, but it hit me. And it was one of these electric cars. I thought: “Fuck me, I’m going to get killed by an electric car!” And then I went home and wrote ‘Last Rodeo’.

Steve’s 9th studio album, Can U Cook? is out now on CD, standard and limited edition clear vinyl and all streaming and digital platforms through BMG. Can U Cook? sees Steve mixing up all of his much loved ingredients to deliver a fresh new record that’s full of sunshine as well as being a good ol’ Seasick mix of boogie, blues, rock, Americana and folk music. The title track sees Steve serve up wise relationship advice with dirty guitars, big drums and a growling vocal in an infectious and electrifying Seasick Steve groove.
Steve laughs explaining the title, “Can you cook?, you know, do you got something going there or are you just thinking about yourself all the time? Can you cook being a gentleman? Can you cook in the bed? Can you rock? Can you cook?!”
Produced and written by Steve, Can U Cook? was mostly recorded in a converted ice house on the dock in Key West, Florida with his longtime drummer Dan Magnusson a.k.a. Crazy Dan (“the guy’s dangerous but he’s a nice fella, he’s just a little bit loopy”) and guitarist Luther Dickinson of The North Mississippi Allstars, and ex of The Black Crowes (“…the greatest living slide guitar player … he’s crazy too, he fits right in”). Dickinson is now part of the touring band for the forthcoming tour dates. When asked ‘why Florida?’ Steve explains, “Right at the harbor is where the actual studio was. There’s the boats, and there’s a place called Conch Republic, which is a restaurant. We could throw a rock from the studio into that place. And the studio’s an old icehouse – the boats would come in to collect ice to keep the keep shrimp cold. And then Jimmy Buffett, in the 80’s, made it into a studio, and it’s right there on the harbor”.
He chuckles, “Can U Cook? was made down south, way down south, as far south as you can go and still have your boots in America. I luv it and I’m hoping y’all like it too”.
