Crossover reggae legend SHAGGY will be flanking Manchester later this month. One of the most popular rap artists of his era, Shaggy’s work in the industry has garnered him six Grammy Award nominations throughout his careerーone of which was a win for the category of Best Reggae Album. Best known for sun-kissed triumphs like ‘Oh Carolina’, ‘Bombastic’ and adulterer’s choice ‘It Wasn’t Me’ – the self-styled Mr Lover Lover will be bringing his ubiquitous trampoline-beats and impenetrable pop-hits to Manchester Academy on Friday June 16th.
This year’s undisputed dark-pop Queen Dua Lipa will be bringing her sultry-vocals to Manchester Academy on October 10th. The Self-Titled Tour is indicative of her confident and solid pop debut, high on stylish nonchalance. The London-born Kosovar-Albanian singer is finally releasing her eponymous debut album on June 2, and it feels like a long time coming. Originally slated for release last September, the breakout pop star deferred its release to allow for the inclusion of last-minute additions from star collaborators Chris Martin and Miguel. Expect large crowds – smokey synth-pop and a smattering of EDM.
Witchy-woman Banks has always been something of an enigma but no mistake about it – she is blowing up! Having warmed the crowds for nu-R&B crooner The Weeknd in recent years – Banks looks set to build on her reputation as his female counterpart; all synths, vocal hooks and moody hip-hop beats. The exotic-looking Tarzana beauty is coming out of the shadows later this year with a headline performance at Manchester Academy on Tuesday October 24th.
Natasha Watts burst onto the UK soul scene back in 2009 with a collaboration with Coolmillion and a track called ‘Show Me’. The track was to become a firm favourite and this is the first stage of the solid foundations being laid by Natasha to ensure she is a well respected UK newcomer. Natasha makes another special appearance at Manchester Academy this year, on Saturday September 16th, having previously stunned crowds when supporting legendary R&B group Shalamar.
