Join The British Music Experience This October Half Term For Endless Fun For All The Family
Throughout October half term The British Music Experience will be welcoming families of all ages to come along and experience the story of British music through costumes, instruments, performance, memorabilia and some special activities, including a screening of the classic Jack Black movie School of Rock.
During the October half term The British Music Experience really does have something for everyone from tots to teens all the way up to granny. Highlights include the chance to get your hands on a top-flight electric guitar in the Gibson Interactive Instrument Studio, with experts on hand to give you some valuable tips, a colouring competition for those budding little artists and a special screening of School of Rock.
Open Sessions: 1 pm – 3pm in the Gibson Interactive Area
Get ready to rock in our fun Open Sessions. Meet our Visitor Experience Musicians who are on hand every day from 1 – 3 pm in the Gibson Interactive instrument studio. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, it’s time to unleash your inner rock star! All ages are welcome.
Family trail: All day
Come along to the British Music Experience and take part in the free Family Trail. Meet Dougie Floyd and his gang of musical mates, explore the exhibition following clues and completing puzzles along the way. Complete the Trail and receive a certificate making you a British Music Explorer. Suitable for 4 -11 year olds
October Half Term Colouring In Competition: All Day in the Discovery Zone
From Dougie Floyd to Frankie Feathers who’s your favourite character from the British Music Experience troupe? This October half term kids can design an outfit for their favourite character for a chance of winning a British Music Experience family ticket. Suitable for all ages.
Story Time Session: 1.30pm in the Education Zone
We’re hosting an interactive, fun for all the family, story time session with a musical theme. Sing along to well-known tunes and come on an adventure with Sonny in the Summer of Love, meet his friends and help him solve some puzzles along the way. Suitable for all ages.
Meet the Mascot: 2pm
Meet our very own Dougie Floyd and Shirley Shoop Shoop from the British Music Experience Troupe. They will be popping in for a visit to meet our British Music Experience Explorers every day in the Discovery Zone straight after story time.
Film Night at the Museum: 25 October 5.30pm
Come join us after hours this half term for Film Night at the Museum where we will be showing the Jack Black classic, School of Rock. Our café will be serving cinema style snacks and drinks. Fun for all the family.
Tickets are £6 or £5 for resident pass holders, children under five go FREE!

The British Music Experience tells the story of British Music through costumes, instruments, performance and memorabilia. Whatever age you are, and whatever you are into, there is something here for you.
The collection boasts outfits worn by artists such as Freddie Mercury and Dusty Springfield, to the Spice Girls, Adam Ant and X Factor finalists and musical instruments played by some of the world’s most renowned artists from Noel Gallagher to the Sex Pistols. There are hand written song lyrics from Adele, the original statues from the Brits and the Apple Corp front door from Saville Row.
Visitors are also able to get involved too. You can learn a musical instrument with the best music equipment available, from drum kits to keyboards.
