Jesca Hoop returns to Liverpool on her US/UK tour this spring, following the release of her ‘compellingly unique’ album ‘Memories Are Now’. Known for her playful live performance, Hoop will bring her mischief to The Magnet on April 5th.
Hoop’s songwriting thus far has earnt her some respectable fans; her early encouragement came from none other than Tom Waits himself. Since her break-through airplay on L.A.’s KCRW, she has appeared on NPR and 6 Music, collaborated with the likes of Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) and worked alongside Elbow’s Guy Garvey.
Swiftly picking up the ‘Guardian Album of the Week’ upon release, ’Memories Are Now’ reflects upon Hoop’s Mormon upbringing, the struggles we encounter in modern society and the timeless theme of heartbreak. With the help of long time friend Blake Mills (Fiona Apple, Laura Marling) the pair get creative in production; a tug of war between seamless melody and restless syncopation. Earning herself comparisons to folk icon Joanna Newsom for her intelligent, romantic songwriting, Hoop is sure to put on a mesmerising performance for Liverpool.
