GRACE MITCHELL has released her new EP, RACEDAY [Casablanca/Republic Records], on Apple Music featuring her new single “Jitter.” Check out the EP HERE.
In addition to debuting the five-song collection, today Apple Music announced it has chosen the Portland, OR singer, songwriter, and genre disruptor for its coveted “New Artist Spotlight.” She holds the distinction of being one of only six artists handpicked for the initiative in the U.S.
Adding to her acclaim this week Beats 1 host and international tastemaker Zane Lowe premiered “Jitter” and proclaimed it his latest “World Record” – playing it an unprecedented two times in a row after its premiere. Upon its premiere Lowe announced, “This might be the song of the year so far. Honestly. Absolutely a new contender in the pop world make no mistake – Grace Mitchell just took a seat at the table and looked at everyone else and said ‘What?!’”
“Jitter” joins the ranks of Pharrell Williams’ “Freedom,” which served as Lowe’s very first“World Record” last month.
“Jitter” slides between a kinetically catchy vocal and wild break with lyrics that capture the wonder of teen disillusion. Today, GRACE released the lyric video for the track, which features mind-blowing imagery inspired by vintage punk rock inspired tour posters. Check it out HERE!
Elsewhere on the EP, she takes the party to new places on the sweetly sharp “Breaking Hearts” and teams up with French rapper S.Pri Noir for the hypnotic “Bae.” Co-produced by Mark Foster of Foster the People and Rich Costey (Muse, Flying Lotus, Of Monsters and Men, and Foster the People), the RACEDAY EP is venturing into new territory.
Critics have immediately fallen in love with GRACE. Buzzfeed crowned her #1 on their “25 Artists You Need In Your Life In 2015” list claiming, “In 2015, we’re holding out hope for more GRACE in our lives,” Glamour named her “One of 15-Up-And-Coming Artists To Listen To This Year,” while Daily News agreed that she’s “One of the new music stars of 2015.” Noiseydescribed the music as a “Cross between a folksier Lorde and a more earnest Banks—meanwhile her lyrics are extraordinarily self-aware and expertly poignant,” and Nylon wrote, “GRACE MITCHELL has a gorgeous, smoky-sounding voice.”
Signed to Casablanca/Republic Records in 2013, the world first heard GRACE on her cover of “Maneater,” which appeared on the soundtrack to the critically acclaimed The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Her debut EP, Design, got the blogs buzzing in 2014 with tracks like the single“Broken Over You.”
