Organisers of the award-winning Liverpool Loves are excited to announce the first wave of performers and cultural acts for this year’s main festival day on Saturday 6 August at Pier Head, Liverpool.
After scooping the prestigious accolade to be named as Small Tourism Event of the Year at last month’s Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2016 – the team behind the festival are now excited to reveal their plans to showcase the best of our local music and culture scene. This will be delivered through a wide programme of quality artists across five separate stages – offering visitors to this free, public event a taste of just why Liverpool has been named a UNESCO City of Music.
This year’s diverse afternoon Main Stage line-up includes a mix of genres from indie-pop and dance acts to ten-piece funk bands – and is designed to bring a real foot-tapping, festival atmosphere to the waterfront. Acts include The Hummingbirds; Halem; The Native Kings and The Soul Rays with The Guide Liverpool and presented by Jay Hynd.
The Ragamuffins; The Cheap Thrills; and Shellsuit are confirmed for The Rider Stage presented by John Gibbons of The Anfield Wrap – along with a host of young, buzz bands from across Liverpool that represent areas from Huyton to Anfield and Aigburth to Walton.
The CultureBox Stage will see two special guest performances from legendary Liverpool selectors DJ Bernie Connor and the acclaimed Greg Wilson – as well a host of cultural shows from international communities in the region and festival partners like China Pearl; Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival and more. To round up this year’s programme – new breakthrough music talent will be showcased by Liverpool SoulFest and Liverpool Disco Festival at Bar Funk, alongside acoustic performances on the Merseyrail SoundStation Pop-Up.
Liverpool Loves attracted more than 27,000 visitors across the weekend in 2015 to celebrate everything that is fantastic about the City Region – with the spotlight falling on the four key themes of Business, Culture, Food and Wellbeing.
Orb CIC is a Liverpool-based social enterprise with a strong proven track record in staging major city events and festivals.
Festival Director Josh Boyd from Orb CIC commented: “There’s just two months left until Liverpool Loves 2016, so it’s time to start revealing details about what we have lined-up for visitors this time around.
“We received some excellent feedback following last year’s event – and therefore wanted to build on what made it so special, by continuing to develop a real festival for the people created for Liverpool by Liverpool.
“It’s set up as a platform for us to showcase our amazing culture scene; but more importantly it provides an opportunity for local events, promoters, community groups – and of course our brilliant local artistes – to connect with a city region wide audience. In turn, the public can rediscover the amazing talent that we have on our doorstep in a really accessible format that’s free-to attend and open to all.
“We still have lots more to announce for our Liverpool Loves Culture programme in the coming weeks including a number of headline acts so, watch this space!”
