As part of their first UK tour in five years, US post-rock titans Explosions in the Sky visit the Liverpool Philharmonic in early October.
The second leg of their 2016 UK tour which has already seen their April date at London’s Royal Albert Hall sell out months in advance, the Austin, Texas based quartet are on the road in support of highly praised new album, The Wilderness, released on 1st April.
The quartet’s first release since 2011, the disc follows Take Care, Take Care, Take Care (2011), their biggest commercial success to date. Issued to outstanding reviews, The Wilderness was hailed by The Line of Best as ‘thrillingly foreign yet familiar in its finest moments’ in a 9/10 write up while The Guardian referred to the strength of the album amidst the band’s back catalogue hailing the LP as ‘another beautifully understated epic’ in a four star review.
Part of the late 1990s/early 2000s post-rock movement alongside Mogwai and Godspeed, You Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky created of one of the last decade’s benchmark albums Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever (2001). Becoming widely known beyond their initial audience, invitations to support industrial rock act Nine Inch Nails and hardcore punks Fugazi underlined their wide ranging appeal.
With Philharmonic’s crystal clear acoustics providing the perfect setting the group’s expansive guitar textures call for, the show in all likelihood will be one of the definitive live events of 2016.
