Scarborough Fair proudly announce Mercury Award nominated band Everything, Everything and Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas to the growing list of acts performing at the art and music festival.
26 year-old Le Havas’ second album, Blood, has received wide critical acclaim following an iTunes Award and a Mercury Award nomination for her debut LP Is Your Love Big Enough? Whilst the ever popular indie rock band, Everything Everything will be heroing their latest album, Get to Heaven which The Observer described as, “an album of astonishing depth”.
They join a list of great contemporary outfits and legendary performers inc: Public Service Broadcasting, Submotion Orchestra, Eliza Shaddad, Billy Bragg, Clare Teal, I Am Kloot, Lau and Field Music. Full line-up to date on second page.
Traditional folk music icon, Martin Carthy MBE who will be performing with his daughter Eliza commented, “I certainly believe that Scarborough Fair will not mirror its namesake in song whose central notion deals in riddles and impossible tasks,” the man who inspired names such as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon continued, “it will prove instead to be a powerful addition to the arts in Scarborough.”
In addition, BBC regular Edith Bowman will be hosting Michael Fassbender’s DMC film site.
The Yorkshire based festival will be taking place on May 27–29 2016 following an 18 year hiatus.
Overlooking Cayton Bay in Scarborough and set amongst stunning views of the coastline at Redcliffe Farm, Scarborough Fair will kick off the UK summer festival season with 5 stages of music which is sure to be an event with an eclectic mix of pop, folk, funk, jazz and dance music.
The cultural melting pot festival is the brainchild of Levack, who was previously on the management team of Glastonbury Festival, and has and overseen Port Eliot festival and a number of pop-up galleries in London and across the UK.
“In 1998 I put on a mini-festival on a friend’s family farm for my 18th birthday. Since then I’ve wanted to bring a boutique festival to Yorkshire which marries art, through its very own art gallery, and great music like nowhere else. Eighteen years later we’re going to do just that and put Scarborough on the festival map,” said Levack.
A key location on the new Tour de Yorkshire cycle race, Scarborough has always been a popular seaside destination and in 2016 will fill a gap on the festival map by welcoming up to 8,000 art and music fans to its various stages. A range of acts, tents and curators will be announced and revealed in the coming weeks.
Arts entertainment will be integrated throughout the festival, including a sculpture trail, installations and a unique pop up art space. Cayton Bay will also offer surfing experiences for festival goers.
