Two of the juggernauts of the Welsh music scene hit the road later this month, for a short joint tour. The shows are a chance for Colorama’s, Carwyn Ellis to showcase material new and old, whereas Plu are out in support of their brand new album, Tir a Golau.
Colorama
Colorama’s main man Carwyn Ellis has to be one of the busiest musicians around. In the last year he’s released two albums as Colorama – Temari (in English) and Dere Mewn (in Welsh), collaborated with Edwyn Collins on the soundtrack to Mojo’s 2014 Film Of The Year, The Possibilities Are Endless, released a Welsh Music Prize nominated electronic album (as Zarelli) featuring the late Leonard Nimoy AND co-produced, co-written and arranged the new album, Red Kite from Saint Etienne singer, Sarah Cracknell. Carwyn & Colorama are one of the best kept secrets in music, but their impressive live shows bear them out as ones to watch.
Plu
Formed of sibling trio – Elan, Marged and Gwilym Rhys from Snowdonia, North Wales in the Summer of 2012, Plu (meaning ‘feathers’ in Welsh) play alternative Welsh language folk music with hints of country/ Americana, with close 3 part harmonies being a back-bone to their varied set. As well as their own material Plu play adaptations of traditional songs of Welsh and other origins.
Plu released their debut album Plu on the label Sbrigyn Ymborth in July 2013 which was produced by Aled Hughes from Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog. This album was shortlisted for the Welsh Language Album of the Year 2013/14. The trio created an album for children, titled Holl Anifeiliaid Y Goedwig, on the Sain Cyf label, released in December 2014.
This was also shortlisted for Welsh Language Album of the Year 2014/15. Their third album Tir a Golau will be released at the end of 2015.
