Circa Waves reveal the video for ‘Fire That Burns’, the second single to be lifted from their upcoming album ‘Different Creatures’, released 10th March on Virgin EMI.
Starring SAG Award-nominee Isaac Hempstead Wright, best known as Bran Stark in Game Of Thrones, the ‘Fire That Burns’ video is a thriller within a thriller within a thriller. Frontman Kieran Shudall stars as a sinister B-movie actor in a classic, Giallo-style horror, whose character commits a string of gruesome murders before the actor himself loses touch with reality and embarks on a bloodthirsty rampage. Morbid, unnerving and strangely fascinating, the short film sees Circa Waves continue along their heavier, grittier new path, shattering the boundaries of everything we’ve come to expect from them.
Lead singer, Kieran Shudall says, “When someone offered me the chance to be a serial killer in an Italian b-movie it was hard to resist…. I messaged Isaac from Game of Thrones on Twitter to see if he would be one of my victims and by some weird twist of fate it turned out he was a big fan of the band and agreed. It was great to do something away from your standard performance video and incorporate some early hammer house of horror into the song, it’s a monster!”
Actor Isaac Hempstead Wright says, “I am a big fan of Circa Waves so when Kieran reached out on Twitter to ask if I would like to be involved with their new video I had no hesitation accepting. We had a great day filming, the guys are lovely, and the concept for the video is really cool. It is like a short film, with its own narrative which gives an intriguing spin on the song.”
Co-produced by Alan Moulder (Foals, Arctic Monkeys, Smashing Pumpkins), ‘Different Creatures’ is the grittier, ‘night time’ counterpart to the breezy summer vibes of its Top 10 predecessor ‘Young Chasers’, exuding a newfound swagger. Shaped by Kieran’s perceptive songwriting ability to reflect the changes he sees in the world, ‘Different Creatures’ showcases a disenchantment with the world he sees, a louder and more vital band, nudging their sonic palette into a territory shared with rock heavyweights such as Arctic Monkeys and Queens Of The Stone Age.
