A new, two-day micro-Festival celebrating grassroots live music, creative collaboration, community networking and multimedia art/film and performance.
A joint venture between Manchester record labels Analogue Trash and Valentine Records, and featuring an eclectic line up of label artists and friends, FOUNDATIONS is about art, space and community – and how we can re-imagine a conventional music festival as a more collaborative and immersive experience.
This 2-day event takes place on 25 th and 26 th November 2016 at the Kings Arms, Salford.
The unique and inventive nature of this festival cannot be emphasized enough. There is a determined ‘arts and community’ element here and the passion for this to connect with Manchester, Salford, the North and further afield;
A (Friendly) Provocation:
Foundations is about beginnings. Its a recognition that, despite the high-flying nature of many of Greater Manchester’s cultural exports and thriving international reputation across the arts, its actually the grassroots, the pop-ups, start-ups and off-the-wall thinking that both provokes and sustains the art/music/film and creative communities in and around the city. You can see it in start-ups like KRAAK and Islington Mill, as well as countless interesting, unique nights, societies, groups and ventures from every corner of the Cottonopolis In that respect, a grass roots multi-arts festival in a pub in Salford (one full of character, stories and characters) has just as much to say as the headline-grabbing, ACE-funded aspiration of HOME, MIF and (if the Northern Powerhouse continues to steam ahead the incoming FACTORY)
Is this a good thing? – are we all happy in our place in the cultural eco-system – or are we heading for another cultural shift in the city – evolution/revolution/remake-remodulate?”
A lot of music coverage/journalism about Manchester and surrounding areas tends to focus fondly on the past, whilst Foundations shows that there are talented artists laying foundations for so much future potential. With this in mind I am writing to ask if this is something you would consider writing about/ featuring in advance of the November weekend event
