A small string section and intricate vocal harmonies support songs written by lead vocalist and guitarist Sharon Mok. Born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, she left Canada to pursue an education in piano technology at Florida State University and currently resides in Buffalo. A classically-trained pianist, Mok picked up the guitar for her current batch of songs, melodies influenced by her childhood experience listening to Chinese opera.
While writing and recording in Buffalo, Sharon met cellist Katie Weissman and the two instantly hit it off. Weissman’s diverse technique and smooth, dark melodies added necessary dimension to the songs.
A native of Buffalo, she graduated with a performance degree from Boston University in 2009, and lived in New York as a musician for a few years before moving back home to be with family. It was Katie who introduced violinist Kathryn Koch into the band, whose natural lyricism and warm, straight-on vocal style created a perfect recipe for blended three-part harmonies.
Kathryn, also a Buffalo area native, graduated from Ottawa University this year with a Master’s degree in violin performance, studying under Yehonatan Berick. Both Katie and Kathryn have impressive performance experience as classical musicians as well as performng for songwriters such as Imogen Heap and Diana Krall.
As Tiny Rhymes, they have opened for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Youtube stars 2cellos, as well as groups such as Ark Life, Small Houses, and Samantha Crain.
