Threshold Festival, Liverpool’s home-made celebration of music and arts, has revealed the theme for its 2017 event as ‘Darkness & Light’.

Visual artists from across Merseyside, as well as bands and solo musicians, are encouraged to apply for the 7th annual festival of grass roots talent via the official website at thresholdfestival.co.uk.

Threshold 2016 brought thousands of people to Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, showcasing the region’s finest emerging artists, new work/ first views, collaboration, DIY, avant garde and community based projects encompassing music, theatre, film, performance and visual arts.

“It is by some distance becoming the finest showcase of new Liverpool talent… arguably the most important weekend for grass roots art in the city”– Getintothis

At the 2016 festival last April, over 40 artists across 9 venues explored the versatility and changeable nature of materials, with broad interpretations under the theme of ‘Alchemy’. The exhibition featured a wide range of art forms including photography, painting and illustration, sculpture, mixed media installation, performance art and works that developed and changed throughout the festival.

Kaya Herstad-Carney, Festival Director said: “We have a tradition of always making  adjustments to our look, sometimes because of change of lead designer but more importantly to respond to our theme and current passions and artistic direction. It has generally worked out as a major change every two years, and this year sees us explore a more photographic and monochrome style of imagery in line with our 2017 theme ‘Darkness & Light’. However, the design has more nuance and a real sense of inspiration from past and present histories in our venues and area.”

The 2017 edition of Threshold will take place from 31st March – 2nd April and Super Early Bird tickets are now available online for just £10 for the whole weekend’s festivities.

“As a platform to scout the latest talent, and a fantastic opportunity for Liverpool’s best to shine, Threshold’s worth has never been clearer” – Bido Lito
