REVIEW – Creamfields Ibiza

Creamfields Ibiza was anticipated to be massive and it didn’t disappoint. No wellies required at the one day festival in the sun which took over three venues in Playa D’en Bossa, Ushuaia, Ushuaia Tower and Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza. All three venues are amazing and the set up was excellent with everything well signposted and easily accessible.

The first act we caught was Hannah Wants at Ushuaia. The Birmingham born DJ is no stranger to Ibiza, playing regular gigs on the island sine making a name for herself back in 2010. The crowd were loving her, dancing away to 90’s remixes including Faithless’s Insomniac and Eurythmics Sweet Dreams. Time for Duke Dumont. Also mixing in some 90’s tunes such as Snaps I Got The Power kept the dancing going strong in the packed out complex with everyone enjoying a welcome respite from the heat with the dry ice plumes shooting off from the stage area. The whole crowd was singing along when he played “I Got U” and with us still humming away it was time to move on.

Over to Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, not as busy as Ushuaia to start off with but it steadily filled up as the day wore one. Drum n Bass duo Sigma took to the stage with a great reception from the crowd, belting out hit after hit such as All Cried Out, Wish You Were Mine and Robin S’s Show Me Love with a huge response to Nobody To Love as everyone joined in hands in the air and jumping around to the demands of the MC.

Next up was Pendulum DJ Set. These guys never fail to deliver and tonight was no exception. Heavy Drum n Bass mixes such as Tarantula had the crowd banging, the hyper energetic MC bouncing up and d own the stage and even on top of the decks at one point. Cue their mix of Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In The Name and it went mental, everyone jumping and singing/shouting at the top of their voices.

A 45 minute set by Eddie Temple Morris with more heavy DnB kept the pace going ensuring that everybody didn’t lose momentum before the headline act came on stage.

The Prodigy were top of the bill for this event and they didn’t let it down. They had the crowd in the palm of their hand opening with Breathe. Maxim and Keith as energizing as ever making sure every single person in the house was going crazy (us included) as they performed hit after hit. New songs such as Nasty, The Day is my Enemy and Rokweiler along with all time favourites Firestarter, Omen, Invaders Must Die and Voodoo People reinforced the fact that these were without doubt the best performance of the whole event. Joined onstage by SleafordMods for their final song of Ibiza (what else?!) and the whole house was going wild, chanting the chorus and bouncing around, the amazing light show and dry ice shooting up over the crowd made the whole show visually fantastic too. Back on stage for their encore, including Their Law and Take Me To The Hospital brought the festival to a rapturous close.

This has been a great success for Creamfields, Hard Rock and Ushuaia and the venue has everything for a festival of this magnitude and fame. With its mixture of music and people, they have managed to combine them into one giant melting pot to produce something that is pure gold.
