Public Image Ltd (PiL) released their 10th studio album ‘What The World Needs Now…’ on Friday 4th September to critical acclaim. The 11-track album, which charted at No.29 in the Official UK Charts, follows the huge critical success of 2012’s ‘This is PiL’, the band’s first album in 17 years.
New single ‘The One’, which is released on 13th November, has been described as having a ‘T Rex strut’ (Mail on Sunday) and as ‘surprisingly direct pop with a tender heart’ (Metro). It is released simultaneously with ‘Bettie Page’ in the US as limited edition 7” vinyls.
Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time, PiL’s music and vision earned them 5 UK Top 20 singles and 5 UK Top 20 albums. With a shifting line-up and unique sound, John Lydon guided the band from their debut album ‘First Issue’ in 1978 through to 1992’s ‘That What Is Not’. After a 17 year hiatus, Lydon reactivated PiL in 2009 by taking them back on the road worldwide.
Last year the band returned to Steve Winwood’s Wincraft studio in the Cotswolds’ to record the new album ‘What The World Needs Now…’ which was released ahead of their current 23-date UK/Europe tour, details and all remaining ticket info at www.pilofficial.com The UK/Europe tour will be followed by North America dates.
The band recently unveiled the making of the album video, which was filmed in the Cotswolds’ by John Rambo Stevens (John Lydon / PiL manager) who had unrivalled access to the recording and writing of the album. The video shows a candid glimpse of PiL’s creative process and humour which is rarely shared. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/
‘What The World Needs Now…’ is self-funded by PiL and will be released on PiL’s own label ‘PiL Official’ via Cargo UK Distribution. The iTunes version of ‘What The World Needs Now…’ also includes the promo video for Double Trouble, plus the non-album ‘Turkey Tits’ as exclusive bonus tracks.
