NorthSide reveal 2018 headliners: QOTSA / The National / Father John Misty

Following Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ international live debut at NorthSide this summer, the leading Danish festival has speedily announced the first five acts on another huge bill for 2018. These are all strong and highly acclaimed American acts that span widely and at the same time suggest a very interesting direction for next year’s program.

Ticket sales for the ninth edition of NorthSide started last week, our spokesman, John Fogde confirms that, “it’s moving very quickly right now. The demand for Early Bird tickets was much higher than in previous years, and in general there has been a lot more interest in NorthSide since this summer’s sold out festival than we have seen before. Therefore, we are also really pleased that we can now add five amazing acts to the poster. So even though 2017 was something special, I can already guarantee now that there will be plenty to look forward to in 2018.”

The first five acts for NorthSide 2018 are:

The National
The band has just released its seventh album, ‘Sleep Well Beast’, where Mojo, Pitchfork, and the New York Times all had rave reviews. The same was the case when The National earlier this year was the main attraction at the Haven Festival, where GAFFA awarded five stars after the concert. The festival was created in collaboration with the Dessner brothers from the band and showed that The National has a very special relationship with Denmark. However, we have to go back to 2014 for their last show at NorthSide, so it is with great pleasure that we can now announce that they have said yes to return next year.Queens of The Stone Age
There are few people on the planet more rock’n’roll than Josh Homme. Since the early days in Kyuss, he has not only collaborated with Iggy Pop, Mark Lanegan, and Arctic Monkeys, and formed Eagles of Death Metal and Them Crooked Vultures, he has also released five albums with the all-star band The Desert Sessions and seven unparalleled albums with the Queens of the Stone Age. The latest album with QOTSA was recorded with Mark Ronson and once again shows Homme’s urge to push to the limits, while developing and delivering crisp and catchy rock songs. The band is always a guarantee for an amazing show and we are very excited to invite Queens of The Stone Age back to NorthSide.

Father John Misty
The controversial and provocative character, created by Josh Tillman after his time in Fleet Foxes and the solo career as J. Tillman, cannot help but create havoc and stir emotions. Nevertheless, through misanthropic but still beautiful songs the decadent crooner has succeeded in attracting an enormous audience. A true one-of-a-kind artist, unpredictable, sometimes hard to grasp, but always fascinating. So we definitely won’t be bored in Aarhus, when Father John Misty comes to visit.

Deerhunter
There are few bands that have released as many excellent albums with as high a level of ambition for more than a decade as Deerhunter. Psych-pop meets noisy punk with impressive beauty on records such as ‘Microcastle’ and the masterpiece ‘Halcyon Digest’, and on the latest album, ‘Fading Frontier’, bandleader Bradford Cox shows that he also excels at writing more focused songs that can get on the radio. Their concerts are often a noisy and hypnotic affair, which will undoubtedly be well-received, when Deerhunter pays their first visit to NorthSide.

Cigarettes After Sex
Exceptionally high expectations for the debut album were finally met in June, Soundvenuecalled them “sensual pop noir” in a five-star review. The November concert in Copenhagen will be the band’s first in Denmark and was quickly sold out. But luckily, there will be another chance to catch them, when NorthSide hosts the first Danish festival show with Cigarettes after Sex.

NorthSide 2018 runs from the 7th to 9th of June in Ådalen, Aarhus, and tickets can be bought through NorthSide.dk.
