Mourning Birds release debut album "Mourning Birds"

Mourning Birds

Mourning Birds are hard working, hard playing, hard smoking Medway punks with integrity and passion. Their introductory body of work is a mighty montage of what the heck blues explosions, garage rock anthems, furious riffs, menacing bass lines, beats of madness and primal howls.

A third of the tracks have been made public in just over a year. Though yet to be heard of by most, every single one earned amazing feedback from music fans, fantastic write ups and track of the day/week/month accolades.

Their enigmatic live presence also won 2014/2015 Festival slots including Camden Crawl, The Great Escape, Tramlines plus landmark shows like This Feeling and, recently, Music Week Rising. The brand new recordings to be heard on this album have even more sex appeal.

Mourning Birds won early national/international support from various BBC Introducing radio shows (Abbie McCarthy of BBC Kent, and more around the UK) plus multiple Band Of The Day/Week picks/sessions.

They have been streamed on NME Buzz Playlist and played on Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music show/Radio 1 Punk Show. Scotland’s music guru, Jim Gellatly, Gill Mills and The Rock Show all played them on Amazing Radio as did Xfm Radio’s main man, John Kennedy. Radio 1’s Huw Stephens liked ‘Oh Yeh’ so much that he played it twice. Back to back.

The highly engaging Jimmy Gilder (guitar/vocals), Sam Mitchell (drums/vocals) and Bill Williams (bass guitar) might be doing something right. Last summer they signed with the notoriously reputable P-Vine Records, recorded with producer and mentor, Rhys Downing, at Foel Studios in Wales. They “Smashed it out in a week” then released the album in Japan a few months ago. Reactions so far? Mourning Birds are the real, classic potential, deal.

Currently writing another album, this is a home grown debut from the underground rock scene, worth investigating.
