Mac Demarco live at o2 Academy Liverpool this November

One of the biggest breakout successes of the past half-decade, hugely celebrated Canadian slacker rock singer-songwriter Mac Demarco visits Liverpool this May for his first ever gig in the city.

Set to release eagerly anticipated third LP This Old Dog on May 5th through much loved indie label Captured Tracks (Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils), album previewing singles My Old Man and the title track soared past 250,000 YouTube views within a week.

Bringing together classic singer songwriter influences: Paul Simon, James Taylor, John Lennon with the scruffy attitude of 1990s indie: Pavement, Blur, DeMarco’s mastery of the three-minute alt pop song has won him a burgeoning worldwide audience.

Trailed as the singer’s cleanest, smoothest set to date, many of the tracks on This Old Dog are first takes, allowing the melodicism of DeMarco’s songs to shine through.

Developing interest in underground circles with a clutch of self-released EPs in 2009-10, DeMarco released his debut LP 2 in October 2012. Second album, 2014s Salad Days received excellent reviews and was acclaimed by many publications as one of the year’s best.

Follow up disc, mini LP Another One issued in August 2015 received an overwhelmingly positive reception and broke into the Top 30 album charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

A firm favourite of BBC 6Music, with a headline slot at this summer’s End of The Road Festival and two dates at London’s Brixton Academy, the Vancouver native is clearly in the ascendant.

With the new LP set to boost his profile further, DeMarco’s Merseyside show will undoubtedly be a special evening and a fantastic opportunity to see one of North America’s best songwriters at present up close and personal.
