Kila to release Suas Síos from animated movie Song of the Sea
Kila Suas Síos from

Every year Kíla produce something magical, something memorable, something special and this year (even though it is barely out of the traps) they haven’t let us down.

Suas Síos (Up Down) is their new album and is being released in the UK in July. It is a work of beauty, a work of maturity; a work that encapsulates their exuberance, their quietness and their sheer talent. The title track has already featured on Mark Radcliffe’s Radio 2 show this month and numerous BBC regional shows.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by the ubiquitous Mr Karl Odlum (Ham Sandwich, Lisa O’Neill, Mic Christopher) the album is bristling with energy, passion and incisive musical intelligence. The last couple of years have seen Kíla return to their globetrotting exploits (Croatia, Malaysia, France, Spain,Switzerland) and it was during these gigs abroad that these songs and tunes were given an opportunity to breath and gain nuances that might not have emerged ensconced in the studio environment.

Song of the Sea is the beautiful new animated feature film from Kilkenny’s Cartoon Saloon. And as with their last film( Secret of Kells), this sumptuous film was been nominated for an Academy Award – an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. As well as the Oscar nomination the film was  nominated in 7 categories for the animated Annie Awards– and Kíla have received a nomination for their music, composed in collaboration French composer Bruno Coulais – he also collaborated with Kíla on the Secret of Kells soundtrack. In addition the music won an award in Lisbon’s Monstra Film Festival Awards.

The film will be released nationwide in Ireland on the 10th of July 2015.
