Father John Misty

Creator of baroque pop masterpiece I Love You Honeybear, one of 2015 most critically acclaimed albums Father John Misty makes his debut solo appearance in Liverpool this July.

The project of former Fleet Foxes drummer/vocalist Joshua Tillman, the US singer-bandleader has issued a score of records under his own name since his 2003 debut, before finding international recognition with two albums under the Father John Misty moniker.

Imbued with the spirit of songwriting icons Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson and Tillman’s founding influence Bob Dylan, I Love You Honeybear was amongst the most critically praised albums of last year, earning career best chart positions of 14 on the UK Album Chart and 17 on the US Billboard 200.

Awarded a full five stars in a laudatory Guardian review and placed third in their Best Albums of 2015 list, the LP was a mainstay in year-end lists, including fifth place in the Readers’ Top 50 Albums in Pitchfork, and second place with Rough Trade.

Released through storied independent labels Bella Union (UK) and Sub Pop (US), the disc was produced by regular collaborator, revered Laurel Canyon musician Jonathan Wilson and mixed by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes/The Walkman).

Combining folk, country and indie rock, and featuring beautifully scored string and horn arrangements, onstage the songs are brought to life by Tillman’s charismatic energy and extensive live band.

Taking place at the newly refurbished Mountford Hall at the University of Liverpool, Father John Misty’s first concert on Merseyside is will doubtless be one of the highlights of 2015 music calendar.
