Children of the 80s returns to Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza this summer
Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza has revealed the first confirmed artists for its weekly Sunday party, Children of the ‘80s, which returns to the hotel’s open air concert area for the second consecutive year from 22 May to 9 October 2016.
Kicking off the season will be Swedish band Rednex, setting the bar with its signature combination of country and western music with electronic beats including the epic 1994 anthem, ‘Cotton Eyed Joe’.
The following week on 29 May, Barbara Tucker headlines, considered a true R&B and soul diva who has collaborated with Ibiza favourites such as David Guetta and Erik Morillo, among others. She shares the bill with British singer/songwriter and Blues musician, Keith Thompson. There are two more opportunities to catch Barbara later on in the season, on 3 July and 2 October.
On 5 June, crowds go wild for African artist Rozalla, who achieved success in 1991 with the dancefloor classic ‘Everybody’s Free (to feel good)’, which has been remixed and remastered countless times. A week later, British-American, R&B and dance group London Beat take to the stage, who saw success in the early 90s with pop songs like ‘I’ve Been Thinking about You’.
Nostalgia reigns on 19 June when pop singer Limahl performs hit single ‘The NeverEnding Story’, soundtrack to the legendary 1984 film of the same name. Alice DJ rules the dancefloor on 26 June with greatest hits such as ‘Better Off Alone’ and ‘Will I Ever’, while Byron Stingily, founder and lead of the band Ten City, gets the crowd jumping on 3 July. Capella does the same on 10 July with songs like ‘U Got 2 Let the Music’.
Hitting the stage on 24 July is Eurodance duo, 2 Unlimited, who reached worldwide popularity with hits such as ‘Get Ready For This’. Jenny Berggren, former member of pop group Ace of Base performs 31 July, while La Bouche of worldwide ‘90s hit ‘Be My Lover’ plays on 7 August, and Haddaway, who performed in 2015, stars on 14 August. They’re followed by Dr Alban on 21 August, best known for the anthemic hit ‘It’s My Life’ from 1992, and American singer Bonnie Pointer on 28 August, whose song ‘Your Touch’ launched her into fame among children of the eighties.
In September, C+C Music Factory and Corona headline on the fourth and eleventh respectively, the latter also returning to the party for a second year to perform their belter, ‘Rhythm of the Night’.
Each week La Movida Ibiza and Dream Team are charged with warming up the crowds before the main players take to the stage. The party will last from 7pm until midnight.
In the wake of a phenomenal debut season in 2015, and with artists yet to be announced, Children of the 80s is set to revolutionise Sundays on the White Isle once more, with its bright colours, dance floor fillers and sing-a-long classics.
