CLUB TENT SHOWCASES 2016

Each year the Festival selects five showcase artists to appear in the Club Tent, which it thinks will go on to great things in the future, such as previous picks Newton Faulkner, Seth Lakeman and The Staves. This year’s showcases are:Patch & The Giant, a dynamic troupe of alt-folk musicians crafting a rustic sound built on a rich union of vocals with instruments including cello, flugelhorn, violin, accordion; innovative fiddle singers The Rheingans Sisters, winners of Best Original Track for ‘Mackerel’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2016; Stroud based Hattie Briggs, whose highly acclaimed music crosses into multiple genres including folk, jazz, soul and blues; singer/songwriter, guitarist and harmonicist, Kelly Oliver, blending contemporary and traditional folk music; multi-award winning folk duo Ninebarrow, delivering songs that are inspired and rooted in the landscape and history of the British Isles.

THE DEN 2016

The Den is the Festival’s Emerging Talent Stage, providing a platform for up and coming artists and has previously seen debuts from the likes of Jake Bugg and Hudson Taylor. This year’s exciting line-up includes: American Southern Gothic alt country blues singer-songwriter Amythyst Kiah; exciting young American traditional musicians Anna & Elizabeth; London’s newest, most radical, and most colourful ceilidh band, Ceilidh Liberation Front; Charlie Cunningham , building a growing reputation for his honest, beautiful songwriting and percussive guitar playing; Appalachian bluegrass, old-time, folk, blues with a unique contemporary twist and haunting vocals from Dori Freeman; Echo Town, brothers Ric and Robert Harrison who energetically use guitar, lap-slide, stomp box, harmonica, didgeridoo and percussion alongside soulful singing; Heg & The Wolf Chorus creating a new, other-worldy folk sound which combines rich vocal harmonies, percussive string arrangements and dramatic piano; India Electric Co., journeying through Eastern European themes, gypsy jazz and Irish reels; Kate in the Kettle, drawing upon folk traditions and adding her own new ideas to cultivate public awareness on environmental issues; stately and poetic folk-noir-balladeerRachel Sermanni from the Scottish Highlands; TV and radio presenter Chris Evans’ favourites Sound of the Sirens, a foot-stomping, crowd-engaging female folk/rock duo;  five-piece The Eskies, bringing a folk noir/gypsy jazz/sea shanty and swaggering stage spectacle; TEYR, (“3” in Cornish), a trio of formidable musicians who showcase the many sounds of the British Isles; acclaimed indie/Americana close harmony trio from Exeter Wildwood Kinmixing thought provoking original songs with a few stunning  covers.

Having started life in 1965, the 14,000 capacity Festival draws acclaim for its combination of internationally renowned headline artists and support for up and coming young performers and continues to enjoy sell-out crowds year on year. 2016’s complete line-up for the main stages is as follows:

Popular for its unique parkland setting, great facilities and family friendliness, the Festival offers something for everyone with four covered stages, street theatre, music workshops and sessions, raucous ceilidhs, open stages, a youth area, internet café, kids’ ceilidh, storytelling, free creche, paddling pool and playground, real ale bars.
