Their first gig in the city since 2009, hugely venerated US experimental pop/psych rock act Animal Collective return to Liverpool this September.
Building a reputation as one of the essential bands of the American underground since the appearance of their 2000 debut, the group are circling the globe in support of new album Painting With, released to a groundswell of praise last month through iconic indie label Domino.
Creators of one of the last decade’s most acclaimed albums, Merriweather Post Pavilion, the disc was widely appraised as the best LP of 2009, placed at the top of the Year End lists by Spin and influential US radio station KEXP.
The band’s first LP since 2012s Centipede Hz, Painting With continues Animal Collective’s run of outstanding releases, weaving modular synthesizers, Beach Boys inspired harmonies and propulsive rhythms into glorious electro-pop.
Described by several critics as the band’s most accessible set to date, the group have described the LP as ‘their Ramones record’, featuring twelve concise, high impact tracks.
Renowned as a spectacular live act, US music publication Billboard recently lauding their ‘sensory-overloading live show’, the quartet’s upcoming Liverpool gig is simply not be missed.
