The Trenchtown DJ area returns to this year’s Africa Oye, featuring DJs including Fila Brazilia co-founder Steve Cobby (pictured), Banana Hill, Truth & Lies and a host of Liverpool’s finest – including No Fakin’, One A Penny, Rich Furness and Bernie Connor on the decks.

The two-day DJ programme features the region’s best Afro-centric selectors, as well as DJ’s playing tracks from all corners of the globe.  The area will be hosted by Beaten Tracks – Liverpool-based collective and longtime supporters of the festival. Steve Cobby is one half of electronica stalwarts Fila Brazilia who formed in 1990 – going on to remix artists as diverse as Black Uhuru and Radiohead. Steve has DJ’d across the world, from Sydney to San Francisco and well as producing the music for Hull’s successful 2017 UK city of culture bid. 

Bernie Connor is a Liverpool institution, revered far and wide for his encyclopaedic music knowledge and enthralling weekly podcast. Bernie’s long standing DJ career has seen him navigate his way through Liverpool music scenes since the 70s, from Eric’s to Cream and onto his current home at the Shipping Forecast.
Truth and Lies debut at this year’s Oye.  The label – led by producer and DJ Ex-Friendly and DJ / designer Joff Casciani – are joined by the returning DJ Mayeva, George Luke, Chris McBride and many more, who will provide a global soundtrack to the festival’s Trenchtown marketplace. 
TRENCHTOWN 
After a fantastic introduction to the festival last year, Trenchtown is back.Situated opposite the main stage at the far end of the park, the area will feature The Oyé Inn, some of the country’s top Afro-centric DJs and The Trenchtown Truck Company serving Caribbean delights, the Oyé merchandise stall, Barefoot Wine Sampling and a comfortable seating area ideal for chilling out. And for those feeling more active, there will also be plenty of space for dancing the weekend away!A percentage of money spent in Trenchtown is invested back into keeping Africa Oyé free for all.

SATURDAY from 12.00pm 

Josh Ray:
Writer, Promotor and burgeoning beat purveyor Josh Ray will be bringing an all vinyl dub set to kick of proceedings.

DJ Lord Borthbury:
A long-term friend of the festival, his Saturday afternoon sets have become a routine highlight.

DJ Mayeva:
Less Pop, More Style – Not Strictly Roots!

George Luke:
A writer who also DJs (and windsurfs. And bakes). Expect music from just about everywhere…

Bernie Connor:
Local legend Bernie brings his Sound Of Music to Sefton Park.

Cervo (Banana Hill):
Will provide a heady mix of global dance music, taking in afrobeat, kwaito, house, disco, soul and beyond.

Hustle DJs:
Purveyors of quality House & Disco, the lads are currently at the helm of The Magnet delivering a multitude of heavyweight bookings and events.

Zacharia Soul:
Expect a DJ Set fuelled with hip “world” house music and deep mystical tribal rhythms.

Truth & Lies Music:
Truth & Lies Music is a music label led by producer and DJ ,Ex-Friendly and designer and DJ, Joff Casciani. They Dj, make and release music and develop and produce music led cultural projects

SUNDAY from 12.00pm 

Jess Gascoigne:
Jess brings beats from around the globe to get the Sunday session started.

Keith Marley:
Mr Marley will bring Roots, Afrobeat, Dancehall and Dub, all on lovely slabs of vinyl.

Steve Cobby: Fila Brazilia
International DJ Steve will be bringing some worldwide selections  to the people of Oye on Sunday.

Chris McBride (Fat City / 45 Kings / 45 Midgets):
After collecting records all his life, expects choice cuts spanning the decades and the archives. 

No Fakin:
Through Hip-Hop, funk, soul, disco, reggae and more, No Fakin’ DJs flip the classic and obscure into a mix that’s guaranteed to get the party started right.

Red Kite:
Festival regular and a fixture on the DJ bill, Red Kite brings reggae and dub 7″s of the finest degree.

One A Penny Sound:
One a Penny Sound is one of Liverpool’s oldest sound systems, now helmed by the next generation of selectors and MCs – Lieutenant and Little Billy

Rich Furness:
Rich is a veteran of the Liverpool club scene having held residencies at Chibuku and Abandon Silence amongst many others, is a life-long reggae and dub enthusiast so will be sure to bring the party to Trenchtown this year.

Schmame Industries:
Helmed by journeyman DJ Jamie Holligan, Schmame bring the heat to Sunday’s final slot.
