Liverpool: Next Stop New York - FREE party and weekend of exploration at The Palm House

Liverpool: Next Stop New York

A free party featuring legendary Merseyside DJs Greg Wilson & Les Spaine, panels and Q&As with the Real Thing’s Eddie Amoo, and an art exhibition featuring the Specials’ Horace Panter are among the events celebrating how Black American music and culture infiltrated Liverpool via New York this weekend.

Tracing these roots from the post-war period through to the nineties, Liverpool: Next Stop New York will celebrate the music that formed unique bond between the two trans-Atlantic cities, in a free, four-part LIMF commissioned extravaganza.

LIMF Curator Yaw Owusu said: As a port city, Liverpool’s culture is informed by a range of influences from across the world but, besides Ireland, it’s probably fair to say, post war, the USA had the most profound af...

In addition, this bank holiday weekend will see the band take in a hometown performance on the BBC Introducing Stage at the Reading & Leeds Festival, ahead of a headline tour across the UK.

The opening of the hook-led lead track ‘Junk Food Forever’ kicks in with thunderous snare shots and cymbal crashes, with vocalist Matt Thomson’s lyrics complemented by an anthemic chorus guitar riff that promises to stay with you for days. Thomson describes the song as ‘a tribute to the nights we used to spend together with our friends before everyone left Reading for different reasons. You think that time will last forever… or at least want it to’...

The Woolen Men share new track "Clean Dreams" on NPR's "Songs We Love"

The Woolen Men

The Woolen Men are three – two Oregon natives and a Washingtonian.  They play punk influenced DIY music in the Pac-NW tradition of Dead Moon and the Wipers.  More than a sound or style, that means a kind of work ethic – do-it-yourself and do it a lot.  The band is happiest touring up and down the I-5 or bunkered in their practice space with the cassette 4-track rolling.  And it shows.  Live, the band is thunderous and energetic and the magnetic chemistry of the three of them playing together shines through in the recordings.
Today the band released the third track off their sophomore album Temporary Monument on Woodsist Records, due September 4th.  Stream the album’s third single “Clean Dreams” over at  NPR...
